about the jury
Ariel Winograd was born in Buenos Aires in 1977, and by the age of ten, he already knew he wanted to pursue a career in cinema and comedy. He studied Film Direction at Universidad del Cine. In 2006, he filmed his debut feature Cara de Queso, which he wrote and directed, with a notable cast, an autobiographical theme, a collective narrative, and a comedic tone. Due to its boldness and freshness, the film piqued the interest of many young viewers who saw themselves reflected in a storytelling style that was rarely seen in Argentine cinema before, turning it into a cult film for its generation. In 2011, he directed Mi Primera Boda, written by Patricio Vega but based on Winograd and his wife’s own experiences during their wedding. This was followed by Vino para Robar, Sin Hijos and Permitidos, films in which he continued to solidify his reputation as a comedy director, gaining increasing attention from the national audience. Mamá se fue de viaje was released during the winter holidays and became the most-watched Argentine film of 2017, with over 1.7 million spectators in theaters. In 2020, he released El Robo del Siglo, the last Argentine film to reach two million viewers in Argentina. In the following years, he directed Hoy Se Arregla el Mundo and El Gerente, the latter winning multiple international awards, including the Grand Prix for Branded Content at Cannes Lions 2023. He was also invited by Mexican producers to direct three feature films in Mexico: Todos Caen, ¿Y cómo es él? (both of which were huge box-office successes in Mexico and the USA, entering the Top 20 in the history of Mexican cinema), and the recent Una Pequeña Confusion, which surpassed one million viewers in theaters.
He served as showrunner and director of the series Las Bravas (Mexico, Seasons 1 and 2), Coppola (Argentina, Season 1, released in 2024 on Star+ with great success), and Menem (Argentina, Season 1, set to premiere on Amazon in the first quarter of 2025).
