about the speaker

Gabriel Duarte is a director and screenwriter whose career spans from the underground scene to recognition at international film festivals. He began in hip hop, directing nearly a hundred music videos for key artists, an experience that shaped his strong sense of rhythm and authenticity.

In advertising, he has developed a distinctive visual language through campaigns for brands such as Budweiser, Itaú, Disney+, Heinz, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and Amstel.

Trained in acting and theater direction at SP Escola de Teatro, Gabriel balances the precision of fiction with the agility of large-scale productions. In cinema, his short films—including Silence and But I Am Not Someone?—have been awarded at festivals such as Gramado, Havana, and Interfilm Berlin.

As part of the O2 Filmes roster, he brings a sharp and thoughtful perspective to stories shaped by contemporary cultural and aesthetic shifts, always driven by a desire to create meaningful work.

In a world saturated with images, what does it still mean to direct?

In this panel, O2 Filmes directors Fernando Meirelles and Gabriel Duarte will bring together two generational views formed in opposite contexts: before and after the visual explosion.

Moderated by Ducha Lopes (Galeria), the conversation will delve into topics including technology, speed, and authorship, to discuss what still defines language today, and what makes an image truly matter.
