Diego Contreras is a Guatemalan-born filmmaker and director known for evocative short films and cinematic commercials that blend emotional intimacy with striking, otherworldly visuals. Rising from a background as an art director at top advertising agencies, he has collaborated with iconic global brands including Apple, Meta, PlayStation, Coca-Cola, Ford, Target, and Reebok, elevating brand storytelling into work that feels deeply personal and poetic.
His projects have earned Cannes Lions, Webby Awards, Clios, AICP Pencils, and five Vimeo Staff Picks. Most recently, Diego received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Long Form Music Video for his direction of Gaby Moreno’s Lamento at the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards.
Self-taught and deeply influenced by his Guatemalan heritage, Diego brings a distinct emotional rhythm and cinematic sensibility to every medium he explores – including music, where he recently composed the score for ESPN Sports’ Emmy-nominated documentary Las Amazonas de Yaxunah and is currently developing an album under the name HUNABI, set for release in 2026.
